What Is CBD Oil?

Most people have heard of an element such as THC, the ingredient in marijuana that causes people to get high. However, recently, public attention has shifted to another constituent element of cannabis - CBD.

Undoubtedly, THC has some side effects that, for a long time, did not allow doctors to treat marijuana as a medical plant. However, CBD is absolutely free from them. The number of shreds of evidence confirming the medical benefits of CBD is growing rapidly. We present you 5 facts that you should know about this component.

CBD is a key ingredient in hemp. A CBD is one of the more than 60 components that make up marijuana. It belongs to a class of molecules called cannabinoids. Along with THC, the concentration of CBD in marijuana is the highest, which makes these components the most recognizable and studied. The level of CBD and THC may vary, depending on the type of plant. Entertainment-grown marijuana contains more THC. Industrial marijuana - more CBD. Modern science has made it possible to grow varieties with high CBD indices and almost zero TGC content.

CBD does not have psychoactive properties. Unlike THC, CBD does not force a person to get high. This, of course, severely limits the use of CBD for entertainment purposes. However, this gives CBD a huge advantage in medicine, because doctors prefer to work with drugs that have a small number of side effects.

The reason why a CBD does not have a psychoactive effect is another interaction with the body, other than THC. In our body, there are receptors called CB1. Most of them are in the brain. It is these receptors that are responsible for the mind-altering effects of the use of THC.

In 2011, a report was published called Current drug safety. According to this, “CBD does not interfere with the work of some psychomotor and psychological functions of the brain.” Many studies also speak of the good tolerability and safety of CBD, even in large doses. Side effects of CBD oil are absent.

Benefits of CBD Oil

CBD has a large number of medical benefits. Although CBD and THC affect the human body differently, many of the effects are quite similar. According to the report of the British Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, published in 2013, the study showed that CBD has a number of medical properties:

  • Antiemetic – Reduces Nausea and Vomiting;

  • Anticonvulsant – Suppresses the activity of seizures;

  • Antipsychotic – Fights psychosis;

  • Anti-inflammatory – Fights inflammatory processes;

  • Antioxidant Fights – Neurodegenerative Disorders;

  • Antitumor Fights – Tumors and Cancer Cells;

  • Anxiolytic/Antidepressant – Fights Anxiety and Depressive Disorders.

Unfortunately, most of the properties of CBD were found only in animals, because the number of studies on living patients, so far, is extremely small.

However, the British firm GW Pharmaceuticals recently introduced a medical version of CBD and is now actively sponsoring clinical studies on the use of its apparatus in the treatment of schizophrenia and certain types of epilepsy.

In parallel, a group of researchers at the California Pacific Medical Center, led by Dr. Sean McAlister, said they plan to begin testing on the use of CBD for the treatment of breast cancer.

CBD reduces the negative impact of THC. Cannabidiol can be called a natural shield from the thrill caused by THC. Several studies confirm that CBD reduces some effects of tetrahydrocannabinol, such as memory impairment and paranoia.

Additionally, CBD counteracts the hypnotic effect of THC. That explains why some cannabis varieties have a stimulating effect.

Both elements and CBD and THC do not carry the risk of fatal overdose. However, to limit the potential side effects of THC, medical marijuana users are encouraged to use cannabis varieties with a high level of CBD.

Is Cannabidiol Legal?

Despite tremendous prospects in medicine, in most parts of the world, CBD remains illegal.

Although, there is some progress in this issue. Not so long ago, the US Food and Drug Administration approved a trial test of the pharmaceutical version of CBD on children with a rare form of epilepsy. The medicine is called Epidiolex.

As stated by GW Pharmaceuticals, the drug “more than 98% consists of CBD, with small amounts of other cannabinoids, and does not contain THC.” GW Pharmaceuticals also produces another hemp medicine - Sativex, used in 24 countries to treat multiple sclerosis.

In addition to already created drugs, there is a patent by the US Department of Health and Human Services (No. US6630507 from 2003), which provides for the use of CBD in the treatment of a variety of neurodegenerative and inflammatory diseases.

The countries of Central and South America have always been distinguished by progressive policies. According to political analyst Steve Rolles, the United States has a strong influence on Latin American countries, so he believes that the future of CBD largely depends on the position of the US government.

is CBD hemp oil legal in EU? In November 2018, the Luxembourg government promised to legalize cannabis by 2023. Swiss authorities have launched a research project aimed at assessing the effects of cannabis on human health. Medical CBD has already been legalized in Germany and the UK. France is likely to follow its example and allow cannabinoids to be used for treatment by the end of 2019. From the Scandinavian countries, the idea of legalizing cannabis was supported only in Norway.

What Is CBD Good For?

CBD oil for depression. Brazilian scientists from São Paulo have proven the effectiveness of cannabidiol (CBD) in the treatment of depression. That cannabinoid contained in hemp has a powerful and long-lasting effect that lasts for a week.

To test the CBD oil effects on depression, researchers conducted experiments in rats and mice. Animals were injected with cannabidiol at a dosage of 7, 10 or 30 mg/kg and then placed in stressful situations, for example, a swimming test. As a result, we managed to find out that CBD has a quick and long-lasting effect on the symptoms of depression. Unlike traditional antidepressants, the effect of CBD lasts for 7 days.

The author of the study Samia Hoka commented on the findings of scientists: We believe that cannabidiol triggers neuroplastic mechanisms that help restore the neural network, destroyed as a result of depression.

In a second study by Brazilian scientists, published in the journal Psychopharmacology, it is indicated that CBD affects neuroplastic mechanisms in the hippocampus and that is why it eliminates the symptoms of depression.

CBD oil for arthritis. Dr. Benjamin Kaplan told Forbes magazine that thousands of people use cannabinoid therapy to treat arthritis. He stated the following: A cream containing CBD helps to relieve pain in the joints of moderate severity. My patients with severe arthritis are taking several medications, but they cannot completely get rid of the symptoms of the disease and therefore are looking for alternative treatments. We do not know all the details of the mechanism of impact of cannabinoids on the human body, however, we know for sure that CBD is a powerful anti-inflammatory agent, different from all other anti-inflammatory drugs. Traditional drugs cause severe side effects that are not observed with CBD.

CBD oil for migraines. The role of CBD in mental health is one of the most exciting, but at the same time, the least understood. Cannabidiol adherents claim that it helps with anxiety, depression, and focusing - problems that most people are used to solving with pills or alcohol, reconciling with side effects. And it helps to eliminate the pain from migraines.

CBD oil for pain in the back. CBD blocks pain, directly affecting a certain group of receptors. Animal studies have shown that CBD helps relieve pain. CBDs are also effective remedies for pain relief in the back, since “they significantly affect the centers of pain in the spine”. And since CBDs are not psychoactive substances, it is hoped that it will be possible to develop cannabinoid preparations for permanent use.

CBD oil for cancer. One of the main properties for oncology of CBD is its interaction with signal lipids, molecules involved in complex cellular processes that determine the functionality of cells, their division, and destruction (apoptosis). The effects of cannabidiol, according to research, disable the genes responsible for metastasis in the cells of many aggressive forms of cancer. And, which is important both for treatment and for obtaining permits for such treatment - cannabidiol is not psychoactive.

CBD oil for pets. Scientists believe that it is necessary to develop alternative methods of treating animals because traditional medicines often lead to serious side effects. For example, because of drugs for healing lesions (microfractures and dislocations), an ulcer and problems with bone density can occur.

Steven Tsital, a veterinary medical assistant who advises Phyto Animal Health, a company that manufactures products from CBD, suggests that as cannabis becomes legalized, scientists will find even more useful components for the treatment of animals. This process will be dictated by the growing interest in their use for people. He said that cannabis had already been tested on 24 species, including birds, reptiles and invertebrates.

CBD oil for inflammation. Activation of the cannabinoid receptors of the first type in the cells of the immune system has an anti-inflammatory effect, as it increases the sensitivity of beta-2 adrenoreceptors that transmit signals in muscle tissues. Cannabinoids also relieve pain by activating central and peripheral cannabinoid receptors.

Scientists recommend conducting clinical trials of cannabinoids in different dosages and combinations in order to identify the most effective options. Special attention will be paid to cannabidiol (CBD), as it has an anti-inflammatory effect, without activating cannabinoid receptors. CBD in the average dosage does not cause side effects and is completely safe for health, this explains the increased interest of physicians to this substance.

CBD oil for anxiety. Have you ever felt anxiety after using marijuana? It means that the grade you used contained a lot of THC, but not enough CBD. These elements muffle each other’s action, creating an incredible symbiosis. THC stimulates mental activity, while CBD mutes it, preventing it from reaching paranoia.

CBD also has the potential to be used in the treatment of social phobia. In 2011, an experiment was conducted in which 10 people suffering from social phobia were selected. Before that, they had never received drug treatment for their problem.

Half of the group received a placebo, and another gave 400 milligrams of CBD per person. After some time, the subjective symptoms of social anxiety significantly decreased in subjects from the second group.

CBD oil for sleep. Some of the most interesting effects of marijuana are related to its impact on the sleep cycle. Studies show that CBD can increase the duration of slow (deep) sleep. That is probably good because deep sleep is believed to play an important role in the recovery processes.

Moreover, experts believe that the most devastating effects of insomnia are due to a lack of slow sleep. For example, studies have shown that a decrease in the duration of slow sleep may be a strong predictor of high blood pressure in older men.

CBD oil for ADHD. For children, if you do not want to give them THC, you can use another cannabinoid CBD. It does not have a psychoactive effect but is also able to help with some symptoms of ADHD, such as difficulty concentrating and mood swings. Cannabinoids are not yet a common alternative to stimulants, but with the development of the cannabis industry and the spread of legalization, there is hope that someday we will be able to replace potent drugs with something much less harmful.

CBD oil for seizures. CBD oil is known worldwide, mainly due to its positive effect on patients with epilepsy. However, CBD has various neurological effects that help us maintain the health of our brain.

Experts are working hard to find out whether CBD can be used to treat various mental and psychological problems, such as ADHD, schizophrenia, anxiety, and other problems associated with the brain. If the evidence and experiments confirm these initial studies, CBD can soon be used to treat various mental problems.

CBD oil for diabetes. This type of disease is caused by a decrease in the sensitivity of tissues to the action of insulin (insulin resistance), which in the initial stages of the disease is synthesized in normal or even elevated amounts. Over time, excessive insulin secretion depletes the beta cells of the pancreas (pancreatic insufficiency), which makes insulin injections necessary. Because endocannabinoids affect glucose and lipid metabolism, cannabinoids can help regulate blood sugar and insulin sensitivity.

Regular consumers of cannabis have a lower level of fast insulin and a smaller waist girth. D. Clinical observations of patients showed that CBD can significantly reduce the level of fast plasma glucose (BPG) and improve the function of the beta cells of the pancreas.

CBD oil for autism. The scientific community has long been trying to achieve a deep understanding of the state of autistic children. Since this disease affects everyone in different ways, there is no overall treatment plan that doctors could prescribe to patients. According to unofficial data, it is assumed that cannabis could be part of the solution, as in the case of epilepsy, but American scientists were not allowed to find out more about possible CBD benefits.

Although the study suggests that cannabis treatment is safe and can alleviate the symptoms of autism spectrum disorders and improve the quality of life of patients, we believe that double-blind, placebo-controlled studies are needed to better understand the effects of cannabis
